Checkout the only Johnny Winter show on WV: 11-7-73.

Here are some of the notes from WV:
"When Winter returned to the road in 1973, he was accompanied by the powerhouse rhythm section of Randy Jo Hobbs and Richard Hughes. Together, this trio delivered a set that was distinctly different from the lengthy blues improvisations that initially established Winter's reputation. The songs were more compact, precise and clean, full of blistering guitar work, but with much of the fat trimmed from the bone. This recording exemplifies this new approach and features Winter now playing a modified Gibson Firebird, which would become his guitar of choice over the next decade. This set includes several of his trademark classic rock covers, a couple of tracks from Still Alive and Well, in addition to several sneak previews of tracks destined for his next album, Saints And Sinners."

It's not a Johnny Winter show, but he does play with Muddy Waters on a 1978 show on the Vault. One of the best shows in the Vault, imo.

I saw Johny play in south shore tahoe in 86 or 87; one of those shows where two sets, break in between, and had a 2 drink minimum must buy. Anyway, he was BLISTERING. Jaw dropping good. Gal I went with was huge Johny fan and spent time speaking with him after show. Very nice, but seemed a little out there - must admit it was hard not to stare at his canvas of tats.

"seemed a little out there"---That could be attributed to that damnable narcotic that has a way of getting its claws into many of the best.

Oh BryanE-to think we also share a love of Little Feat as well. Did you catch them last summer at the Pageant?

While they are like The Dead vs. The Grateful Dead without Lowell, it is well worth attending. They played about a month ago at the Pageant. We may have to schedule that next time they come thru.

I saw Johnny in 1984, and it was just as you described - jaw-dropping good. He never stopped playing, even through a broken string (a roadie swapped guitars with him still playing, tricky maneuver.) Best damn blues rock and roll I ever saw. I saw Johnny Winter last summer, and he's getting a little older, but could still play.

I'm thinking of picking up tickets to November show, based on recent reviews and what people are saying it will be worth it.

Way cool - I've seen him a number of times and ALWAYS a great show - Seen him in some pretty small places too, which is a real treat.
